    Apple Messages for Business

Apple Messages for Business is Apple's verified business messaging program for iPhone, separate from RCS, that lets registered brands hold rich 2-way conversations inside the native Messages app.

    Apple's parallel program

Apple Messages for Business, sometimes shortened to AMB, is Apple's answer to verified business messaging on iPhone. It is a separate program from RCS, even on iOS 18 where Apple supports RCS as a protocol. AMB ships rich features (Apple Pay, list pickers, time pickers, authentication) that are tightly integrated with the iOS native experience.

How it relates to RCS on iPhone

Confusing but important: iOS now supports both RCS (the open carrier protocol) and Apple Messages for Business (Apple's proprietary verified business program). They are not the same channel.

    • RCS on iOS: works for messages between consumers and between brands and consumers when delivered through carrier RCS infrastructure. Verified business identity is still rolling out.
    • Apple Messages for Business: a fully Apple-managed channel with rich UI components, payment, and identity that is more polished but more closed.

For now, brands aiming at the full iPhone audience often use both: RCS for the broad consumer base, AMB for premium experiences with deep iOS integration.

    What AMB looks like

A live AMB conversation supports text, images, list pickers (a customizable picker UI), time pickers (for booking), Apple Pay, custom interactive messages built with iMessage Apps, and 2-way conversation. The brand shows up with verified name, logo, and the AMB business badge.

    Registration

Brands enroll through Apple Business Connect. The verification process covers the brand identity, the use case, the customer service entry points, and the messaging routing. Apple reviews and approves, after which the brand can deploy.

    Why brands invest

iPhone users are a high-value audience in many U.S. verticals. AMB delivers the richest conversational experience available on iOS today, with payment and structured-input UI that go beyond what plain RCS can do. For brands where iPhone share matters (luxury retail, premium services, financial services), AMB is often a deliberate investment alongside RCS.

    Frequently asked questions

Is Apple Messages for Business the same as iMessage?
AMB rides on Apple's iMessage infrastructure but is a separate verified business program with brand registration, custom UI components, and a defined commercial framework.
Do I need both RCS and AMB?
If your audience is heavily iPhone, AMB plus RCS gives you the best of both worlds. If you are reach-first, RCS plus SMS fallback covers the universe at lower cost.
Does Apple Pay work in AMB?
Yes. Apple Pay is one of the headline features of AMB, allowing in-conversation checkout for supported brands.
